#62. Tie One On (A Scarf, That Is)
A scarf can add dash to your ensemble, transform a tired turtleneck, and wake up last year’s little black dress. This accessory can disguise a not-to-swanlike neck and even help draw away from figure flaws (It can also act as a “conversation starter!” — yes, she’s mentioned that…as we’ve mentioned that only gay men would notice a woman’s scarf).
Elena has some scarf smarts to keep in mind:
- Don’t place knots where they will draw attention to your largest parts.
- A scarf tied as a choker should be avoided if you have a short neck — better to tied it so it falls mid-chest
- Long scarves that fall to the top of the hipbone will make short women look taller
- Small scarves should sport small prints; large scarves or wraps can handle large graphic designs.
- Match scarf size to your body size — a big shawl with fringe will dwarf a small woman; a tiny scarf wrapped around a large woman’s neck will be lost and look awkward
- Choose scarf colors as you do makeup and clothing –make sure they flatter your clothing
- A 36×36 inch silk twill scarf (think Hermes or Gucci) flatters most women and is the most versatile
Since I think she’s talking about those old-skool scarves like CoCo Chanel (and Barbara Bush) wear, I’m going to change this scarf post *slightly* to something younger and fresher – even tho at the moment, I’m feeling old and stale with this cold. Do something more like Jessica Alba is up top – the casual scarf is much more appealing and youthful (I think) than using the old Hermes standby with a brooch – we’re not 50 yet, so let’s not jump ahead of ourselves. (Plus, as we’ve established before, Hermes scarves are insanely expensive for a square of fabric - and did I mention I’m a PT graphic designer squatting with my sister?) Plus, up here, you’re gonna need the snugglier version of the scarf to keep from freezing your bullocks off anyway.
Speaking of jumping ahead, I want to just GET OUT THERE RIGHT NOW and check out my new ‘hood, but with this awful cold, I feel like I’m being forced to take a Time Out before I can go out and play. So, I’ll slow down, try to get better and do what I can from indoors, chock full of meds and mucus, and open up a Match.com account today…WA-style! Online man-shopping to go along w/ Christmas shopping!
Stay tuned!
